Comforted

Comforted (1st draft)

Big eyes with long lashes
gazing up at you
shining with tears because of a nightmare

so real their fears
but confident they are in your ability to

pick them up, stroke their skin
maybe sing a soft song
until weary lids drop tight again.

Comforted.

Running so fast
puggy little legs

then oops! off the grass
onto cement
knees grazed
head bent.

You hear their cries.
You bend over

to analyze.

Wipe new wound.
Give it a sweet kiss.
Now they're off again.
Accident dismissed.

Comforted.

A broken heart
they thought they knew
this was the one
they'd love forever.
The two weeks flew.

Romeo and Juliet
the next week were through.
Wails endless throughout the night.
Hungry no more. No more delight.

You rock them as a little child.
You tell them stories to make them smile.
You give them hope to love again
just maybe not for a little while.

They begin to feel
comforted.

A more mature love found over time.
Marriage. Children. So perfectly divine.
Employment enough to stay on course.
Then a whirlwind spin... Mate wants a divorce.

Accusations made. True or untrue.
The children paid a price undue.
Pure hatefulness heard
piercing youthful hope to blackness
as the only truth.

You promise them a better new start.
They won't believe. Feeling it's too hard.
You continue to show them it's possible and how.
They do not hear for hardened their heart.

But over time the hurt and pain
Increasing as wind in a hurricane
Shakes up their lives; awakens their brain
to ask the whys. The answers gain.

Comforted.

For none has power
A brother to redeem.
Even one held in high esteem.

A higher personage pure, holy, clean
Did us provide a future secure.

The next words read are no mere dream:

"For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who recognizes the Son and exercises faith in him should have everlasting life,

and I will resurrect him on the last day.” John 6:40.

"For the undeserved kindness of God has been manifested, bringing salvation to all sorts of people.

It trains us to reject ungodliness and worldly desires and to live with soundness of mind and righteousness and godly devotion amid this present system of things,

while we wait for the happy hope and glorious manifestation of the great God and of our Savior, Jesus Christ,

who gave himself for us to set us free from every sort of lawlessness

and to cleanse for himself a people who are his own special possession, zealous for fine works." Titus 2:11-14.

Comforted?

"Moreover, may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father,

who loved us and gave everlasting comfort and good hope by means of undeserved kindness,

comfort your hearts

and make you firm in every good deed and word." 2 Thess. 2:16, 17.

Comfort They generously provide to all those their commandments heed:

“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”

He (Jesus) said to him:

“‘You must love Jehovah your God with your whole heart and with your whole soul and with your whole mind.’

This is the greatest and first commandment.

The second, like it, is this:

‘You must love your neighbor as yourself.’ Matt. 22:36-39.

By practicing love we too can bring: Comfort.

Are not those verses comforting?
