"Sabrina, wake up!" Kim shook her excitedly from sleep.
"We must get to the hospital," she urges Sabrina.
"Wayne was just brought into emergency,"
her words bearing a repeat.

"What?... Emergency!" Sabrina wakes suddenly
aching of head. Yet, springs up throwing off her quilt
then hurriedly pulling on boots and jacket over her pajamas
without much more being said.

Kim called 'Uber' the hospital to race.
Sabrina extremely grateful,
Thank God Wayne's not dead!
very anxious to see him.
Wishing the older driver would increase his pace.
Since for three consecutive fit-filled nights now
she searched for news for unidentified victims.
Stressed by all she nervously read:

Even on campus
concentration felt like wrestling an alligator
difficult to sustain as all Wayne's peers
questioned her about his absence
while viewing her in disdain.

Eyes accusatory as an abandoned pet
because of his love she'd gain leaving many upset.

To help Sabrina cope with her torturous agonizing
of just where Wayne could be

these scriptures in particular
helped Sabrina during her duress
to maintain her sanity:

"Do not be afraid, for I am with you.
Do not be anxious, for I am your God.
I will fortify you, yes, I will help you,
I will really hold on to you with my right hand of righteousness.’" Isaiah 41:10.

"Look! God is my salvation.
I will trust and feel no dread;
For Jah Jehovah is my strength and my might,
And he has become my salvation." Isaiah 12:2

"The salvation of the righteous is from Jehovah;
He is their fortress in the time of distress.Psalm 37:39

"May Jehovah be praised, who daily carries our load,
The true God of our salvation." Psalm 68:19

"Hope in Jehovah;
Be courageous and strong of heart.
Yes, hope in Jehovah." Psalm 27:14.

Verses spiraling as a Ferris wheel
coursing her head to heart
around and round silently
yet thoroughly profound
kept her going daily
although

Sabrina walked slowly chilly campus grounds
not giving much thought to
usually fashionable appearance.

A bit disheveled she then
with her head heavy
eyelids gazing down
unable to give a witness
with reasoning sound
with her growing weary
making her unhealthily thin.

Now, in the car ride over Kim held onto Sabrina's hand
while Sabrina prayed in gratitude
all the while tears streamed down her cheeks
unknowingly--upon unconscious reliefs' demand.

Kim leaned over to whisper,
"Sabrina, if you see Wayne's father
do not say a word. Stay out of his vision.
Do not let your voice be heard.

Wayne's in critical condition, Sabrina.
He'll need your prayers. But Mr. Kang will think you
Wayne to disturb."

Sabrina with her mother did agree
although sadden by this in utmost sincerity.

Brought to her mind a poem she'd composed--
A Heart Safeguarded*
after earnestly admonished to avoid Wayne's association
which her daily actions demonstrated
she unwittingly opposed.

However, Sabrina recalled it as she and Kim waited nervously
in an obtuse location--in her mother's office awaiting word
from a student nurse at her work station.

Because Wayne belonged to a supposedly superior nation
viewing Vietnamese in degradation
although Sabrina and Wayne
in truth, since children,

loved each other without hesitation.

Why Sabrina sat with her head hanging down
her joined palms caught between her knees
as she begged the Father to "Save Wayne,... Please."...TO BE CONT'D

*A Heart Safeguarded

"Look!

I was born guilty of error,
And my mother conceived me in sin." A seed

planted in soil spoiled

dry; deficient in healing nutrients
designed to edify

thus strengthen and protect
tender seedlings

teeming with vermin.
Death dealing deemed.

Why prejudice or discrimination
plagues humanity

this straggling weed
squeezing tightly

a potential
fruit bearing sapling.

Bred, wickedness in racist's deeds
flourishing cruelty in extremes

from one's environ--

one's family inherited or selected.

How shall we root out pests
like hatred and prejudice

lodged in secret hides

wedged deeply
between nationalistic
or personal familial pride?

Shall not we first identify any invasive species offensive
then hack away or gently pry

to eradicate poisonous limbs
smothering loving breeds of budding florals
pleasing to senses

beauteous to appreciative eyes

graciously gathered in luxuriant gardens
not bordered by divisive confining fences?

Let's prune our vines of eroding finds.

Rinse thoroughly
by means of brotherly affection

hugs and kisses
to tingle international spines.

Impart

to young minds as through veins fed
by rain waters of 'truth'

not necessarily 'tradition'
led.

Remove plantings from deadening
shadowy teachings

confusing one's head.

Transplant to spaces
where brilliant rays of sun

sprout
tolerance of races

refining morals
more valuable

'as precious corals'
instead.

Yes,

"Above all the things that you guard,
safeguard your heart,

For out of it are
the sources of life."

"Be rich in fine works,... generous,
ready to share,

safely treasuring up... a fine foundation for the future,
so that they may get a firm hold

on the real life."
Soon to arrive:

Tranquility

as found in
a luscious bouquet

where noses are not made
to wheeze or wiggle

not caused to run
or bleed red

since
weeded eternally
of crippling war

yes,
vengeful strife

on our planet's horizon
rising.

A Paradise Restored.
Perfection pursued.

Just

Straight ahead!
