Sabrina fast walked across campus
after she spoke with the crowd
made it to the Professor's class right on time
thankfully proud
noticed though, with a quick glance to the rear
that Wayne must've overslept,
or had just fallen behind.
Growing, her concern
for this man she holds dear.
She'd read: 10 dead as Wine Country fires burn at least 1, 500 structures, force evacuations*
but hoped Wayne's family well-away from furious flames eating land; praying no more lives instead
especially since Wayne already seems to be spiraling into a fog lifting him way over both their heads.
Though, this to him, presently, she would not have said.
Sabrina took the advice
mentioned in Proverbs 15:28:
"The heart of the righteous one meditates before answering,
But the mouth of the wicked blurts out bad things."
Both her fathers
literal and spiritual
teaching her actions
dignified and well-bred.
As the professor spoke on ancient finds
Sabrina found it difficult to focus her mind on these daily concerns
while fires raged, floods rose, countries needed relief and businesses closed.
Her thoughts digressed to the Creator:
"During all their distress
it was distressing to him." Isa. 63:9. Sabrina scrolled.
Thought about how this verse many would console.
When she and Wayne were on better terms
when their conversations soared towards future hopes they both would receive, though not because earned
Wayne's eye would shine as she he reminded:
"Remember Sabrina how your dad used to say after one of us had given a talk and performed well:
"Proverbs 12:25: "Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs it down,
But a good word cheers it up." Then he'd say, "Good job, son! Keep it up!... You're doing swell!"
Sabrina's heart at this memory threatens to erupt.
She hops up out of her seat
to the bathroom ends
bending over the sink
before tears dampened her silk blouse.
With trembling hands
begins to text Wayne... Then herself stops.
Looks at her reddening eyes in the mirror,
then lids sorrowfully drops.
Sabrina takes paper towel,
dampens it
dabs at her face.
Returns to her seat.
Wayne from her thoughts
she does erase
but not before recalling
what the following verse in Proverbs 12:26 had to say:
"The righteous one searches out his pastures,
But the course of the wicked
leads them astray."
What was happening with Wayne?
Was he weak or wicked? questions that bugged her
since the elders admonished her:
"Sabrina,
for now,
why don't you from him
stay."
Knowing their advice was good
as they also considered her welfare as part of the flock
and their recommendations
she valued as high commodity
precious stock
for of them also
as of Jesus
was spoken:
"The Sovereign Lord Jehovah has given me the tongue of those taught,
So that I may know how to answer
the tired one with the right word."
Why Sabrina rose early
before the birds every day:
"He awakens me morning by morning;
He awakens my ear to listen like the taught ones." Isaiah 50:4.
So found Sabrina Phil. 4:6, 7 to her emotions sooth:
"Do not be anxious over anything,
but in everything by prayer and supplication along with thanksgiving, let your petitions be made known to God;
and the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and your mental powers
by means of Christ Jesus."
Back to the professor's words
her mind to gruel.

Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs it down, but a good word cheers it up.—Prov. 12:25.
Uncontrolled anxious thoughts can cause us physical and spiritual harm. Let us trust in Jehovah and remember the words of today’s text. Good words of encouragement from someone who understands us can make our heart rejoice. Confiding in our parents, our spouse, or a trusted friend who views things from God’s standpoint may help to relieve our anxiety. No one understands our anxiety better than Jehovah does. “Do not be anxious over anything,” wrote Paul, “but in everything by prayer and supplication along with thanksgiving, let your petitions be made known to God; and the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and your mental powers by means of Christ Jesus.” (Phil. 4:6, 7) Think about those who are helping to protect us from spiritual harm—fellow believers, elders, the faithful slave, angels, Jesus, and Jehovah himself. w15 5/15 4:16, 17
