Impasse

"This is what Jehovah says:

‘A voice is heard in Raʹmah,
lamentation and bitter weeping:

Rachel is weeping over her sons.

She has refused to be comforted over her sons,
Because they are no more.’” Jer. 31:15.

"Hey!" In unison they cried,

"Let's plant a garden and feed the earth!"

No more children to die
after only a few
or no hugs.

No more mommies to smile sadly
after giving loving birth.

"We'll remove the rocks and dig up hard soil.
And don't be surprised
when you see many bugs!"

The shovel, the rake, the hammer, the saw
didn't realize how much
they would need to toil...

When first they began under a rising sun.
In the heat of the day,
tempers began to boil

as ideas clashed
and feelings were rubbed raw.

The shovel dug deeply stubbornly.
The hammer hammered hard consistently.
The rake created divisions repeatedly.
While the saw cut sharply and brutally.

Forgetting a goal planned together nobly
as it fell apart in arrogance, mournfully.

Each tool able to contribute their worth.

But divided by haughtiness,

not able to accomplish their task
conceived by a fleeting loving thought.

Now at an impasse...

A dearth of real love, loyalty and truth
creating an obstacle of international girth.
